My Interests

I’m interested in what people believe, the reasons they give for their beliefs, and whether those reasons are good.

Some of the beliefs I study describe what the world is fundamentally like. I think about these beliefs through analytic metaphysics, epistemology, the philosophy of physics, and sometimes psychology and biology.

Other beliefs are about what is right. I often think about these through the lens of egalitarianism, and I’ve written a book on how to think this way.

Still other beliefs are vague and sometimes bizarre. I think about them with the aid of phenomenology, deconstruction, and critical theory. Compared with clearer beliefs, these don’t interest me as much.

Finally, I occasionally think hard about what lies ahead and what is to be done. This has led me to wonder about God, and what He might be like.

To pursue these interests, I read a lot. Some of the books I enjoyed are here. I regularly read articles in Mind, Noûs, Phil Studies, PPR, and Synthese.

I also write essays and edit Philosopher’s Compass. I’m grateful for a $160k merit scholarship from my school, which I partly use to support effective charities that offset my carbon footprint and impact on animals.
